Daily Fantasy NBA “Value Pick” at FanThrowDown Tonight (3/6/13)

Fanthrowdown-promo-bonusAt this point in the season, you can overwhelm yourself with the amount of data available from this season. Here’s a few words of advice: keep it simple. I tend to make my lineups very quickly. I know who is playing well and who is injured, and you probably do too.

On Wednesday, almost every NBA team is playing. There are 14 games. If you like a player, he is probably available. Here are a pair of players that I like: one relatively expensive and one fairly cheap.

Power Play: Al Horford – PF/C

Atlanta Hawks vs. Philadelphia 76ers

(Draft for $9,000 on Fanthrowdown)

Horford has been on a very nice run even as the Hawks are losing. It helps that the 6-10 power forward/center bruiser is playing huge minutes and shooting fantastically well. In February, Horford averaged 21.5 points on 62.1% from the field with 11.3 rebounds and 1.8 blocks. Last Friday, he even hit a pair of 3-pointers to add his Throwdown value. After losing the last three games of a West Coast swing, the Hawks return home to face the struggling 76ers.

Horford did not play particularly well in the first game against Philadelphia on Dec. 21. He had just seven points and eight rebounds, but Atlanta is leaning on him with all of their weight and the former Florida Gator is holding up. Horford has scored at least 39 Throwdown points in seven of his last nine games and should be good for 40 against Philly.

Bargain Play: Marcus Thornton – SG

Sacramento Kings at Golden State Warriors

(Draft for $5,200 on Fanthrowdown)

For bargain plays, the keyword is opportunity. For the past few games, Thornton has risen above the backcourt crowd in Sacramento and received plenty of offensive opportunities. He made headlines when he put up 36 points, including eight 3-pointers, in the loss against the Heat last Tuesday. The fourth-year guard from LSU showed that he wasn’t a flash in the pan by scoring at least 18 points in his next three games, including 25 points in the blowout loss to the Spurs. It might be somewhat concerning that the shooting guard does his best work in losses, but then you should be reminded that he plays for the Kings. Losing is typical.

Thornton has played well against Golden State before. He had 19 points, including five 3-pointers in the high-scoring win on Dec. 19 as well as 16 points early in the season in another win. He has averaged 22.2 points with 3.2 3-pointers over his last five games.
