An abbreviated nine-game slate is set to go on the diamond Thursday. Match-ups include the Brewers/Pirates, Mariners/Yankees, Tigers/Rangers, Giants/Rockies, and Nats/Padres. Here’s a short list of players I’ll be looking to add when putting my daily fantasy rosters together.

*** $2 Bucks Enters You into DraftStreet’s Thursday Night $600 GPP ***

1B

Garrett Jones ($8,825) Lefties raking Burgos for a .382 AVG and 3 HR.

Value: Lyle Overbay ($7,065) The Yanks first bagger is running hot batting .296 with 5 extra base hits (1 HR) and 9 RBI over the last week. He’s 11-for-24 with 5 2B vs. Harang lifetime.

Avoid: Brandon Belt – 0-for-10 with 2 Ks vs. Jhoulys Chacin.

2B

Derek Dietrich ($7,569) Hit safely in every game since call up; most damage vs. righties.

Value: Neil Walker ($7,156) The Pirates got their second baseman back earlier this week, and he responded with a 2-for-3 night his second game back. Burgos has been raked for a .382 AVG and 3 HR versus lefties to date, so look for the switch-hitting Neil to have success here.

Avoid: Ian Kinsler – 3-for-25 with 6 Ks vs. Justin Verlander.

SS

Troy Tulowitzki ($10,605) Major statement game for Rockies who’ve dropped nine straight to Giants. Tulo has no fear stepping into the box vs. Cain whom he’s batting .340 against with 10 extra base hits (4 HR) and 6 RBI.

Value: Jean Segura ($8,019) Salary still hasn’t caught up to output. Jean batting .395 vs. lefties with 8 extra base hits (2 HR) and 10 RBI.

Avoid: Jhonny Peralta – 1-for-9 with 1 K vs. Yu Darvish.

3B

Pablo Sandoval ($10,135) Not many Giants have hit Chacin for power, but the KF Panda has taken care of business in going 7-for-17 with 4 extra base hits (2 HR) and 4 RBI against him. His 7 career HR at Coors are the most he’s hit away from AT&T, and he’s in a HR groove having launched three in the last week.

Value: Pedro Alvarez ($6,386) Loading up with lefties vs. Burgos and Pedro’s already taken him yard.

Avoid: David Wright – 1-for-8 with 3 Ks vs. Adam Wainwright.

OF

Carlos Gomez ($8,822) “Mini CarGo” gets the call here with him crushing LH pitching to the tune of a .421 AVG and 1.213 OPS with a pair of bombs and only 7Ks through 38 plate appearances. He’s 5-for-8 lifetime vs. Liriano with 3 extra base hits (2 HR) and 3 ribbies.

Value: Will Venable ($7,684) 3-for-3 lifetime with 2 extra base hits and a SB vs. Stephen Strasburg. He’s a streamers wet dream at Petco where he’s batting .327 with 4 HRs to date and does his best work against righties.

Avoid: Carlos Gonzalez – 4-for-34 with 10 Ks vs. Matt Cain.

C

Buster Posey ($8,667) Slim pickens to choose from at the catcher position this evening, so we’ll have to settle for Posey here who doesn’t have any power numbers that jump off the page in this BVP match-up, but he has hit safely in 4-of-7 ABs against Chacin with 2 BBs.

Value: Miguel Olivo ($3,876) 2-for-3 with a HR, 2B, and RBI vs. Mat Latos.

Avoid: John Buck – 1-for-8 with 1 K vs. Adam Wainwright.

SP

Yu Darvish ($19,227) The Japanese import is throwing out of his mind right now having led the Rangers to wins in each of his L/5 trips to the bump, and is on pace for 300+ Ks! Texas has graced him with 6.8 runs of support per game which has made his job that much easier. He’s won all three of his career starts vs. Texas who’s only hit him for a .095 BAA; can you say domination?!

Value: Jose Fernandez ($10,641) Kids been dealing of late in going 2-0 with a 2.65 ERA & 1.06 WHIP L/3 starts; Reds might be more concerned with getting to Philly on getaway day making the rookie stud a fabulous value play in the series finale.

Avoid: Mat Latos – 4.76 ERA & 1.71 WHIP L/3 starts and sports a career 9.26 ERA & .340 BAA through three Sunshine State outings.

A full 15 game slate is scheduled to go on the diamond for Hump Day. Match-ups include the Braves/D’backs, Brewers/Pirates, Rangers/A’s, Red Sox/Rays, Nats/Dodgers, and Indians/Phillies. Here’s a list of players I’ll be looking to add when drafting my daily fantasy roster.

==> **FantasyFeud Triple Play for 50K Winner Takes All**

1B Joey Votto ($81,536) While the Reds one-bagger hasn’t produced the eye-popping stats of Davis, Goldschmidt or Fielder this season, he still checks in as the 5th best first baseman going. His bats also been relatively quiet of late, but he got a good look at Sanabia earlier this season and hit safely in three of his four ABs (1 HR).

Avoid: Paul Goldschmidt ($93,392) 0-for-6 with 2 Ks

2B Marco Scutaro ($76,128) The Giants offense has fed off Scutaro’s hot start to the month of May. He’s in the midst of a 14-game hit streak heading into this one, and I love his chances of extending it versus Ortiz who is by no means stretched out enough to get the best of a Giants offense that was humbled until late in the series opener.

Avoid: Kelly Johnson ($67,600) 0-for-8 with 3 Ks

SS Jhonny Peralta ($77,168) Also running hot right now is Peralta who has tallied multiple hits five of the L/7 times Leyland installed him into the starting line-up. He got Tuesday night off, but you can bet your bottom dollar he’ll be manning the SS position on Wednesday afternoon as hot as he is paired with the fact that he’s batting 1.000 in two career ABs versus Astros’ BP arm Keuchel.

Avoid: Elvis Andrus ($63,232) 0-for-4 with 2 Ks

3B Aramis Ramirez ($75,296) A-Ram has only gone yard once over the last week, but I give him an excellent shot of launching one into the cheap seats on Wednesday with him taking offerings from Rodriguez. He’s hit Wandy for a .392 AVG through 51 career ABs with 5 extra base hits (2 HR) and 6 RBI. Aramis has hit the second most HRs of his career at PNC from his days of manning third base for the Buccos. I like him to score a nice tally this evening.

Avoid: Pedro Alvarez ($50,336) 0-for-15 with 8 Ks

OF Josh Hamilton ($56,992) Though he’s been battling a respiratory infection the last couple weeks, Hamilton’s production has been on the rise since the calendar year turned to May. Though his counting stats still aren’t there, he’s hit safely in four of his L/6 games and I foresee a nice night at the plate for him tonight versus Davis, as Wade is yet to retire him in four career ABs. Three of Josh’s four hits have been for extra bases and one left the yard. This could be his coming out night at the dish!

Avoid: Carlos Gomez ($81,328) 4-for-29 with 14 Ks

C Joe Mauer ($88,816) Joe is once again swinging the lumber like he once did when he was a shoe in to represent the Twinkies in the All-Star game every passing season. In his L/31 ABs, Joe has hit safely 16 times with seven of those hits going for extra bases; he’s also knocked in 4 runs and walked seven times. To put it mildly, he’s seeing the ball real well right now. Though he has just three career ABs versus Axelrod, he’s gotten on base in all three and has 1 RBI. While Dylan has been a bit better versus lefties to date, three of the five HRs he’s given up have come from that side of the plate.

Avoid: Jonathon Lucroy ($45,760) 3-for-14 with 2 Ks

SP Yovani Gallardo ($90,240) Quality starts have been few and far between for the supposed staff ace of the Brewers in 2013, and it’s been publicized that upper management has grown weary of his overall drop in velocity. I’m not buying the hype whatsoever. Gallardo has always been a slow starter, and mid-May is when he normally starts turning it around. If he struggles in this spot against a Pirates squad he’s dominated throughout his career, than the worries might be warranted. He’s 10-2 with a 2.49 ERA lifetime versus Pittsburgh and has only been hit to a .218 BAA through six PNC starts. I’m riding the righty in this one!

Avoid: Cole Hamels ($97,760) 0-1 with a 10.80 ERA 1.60 WHIP and .400 BAA

Match-ups include Brewers/Reds, Angels/White Sox, Yankees/Royals, Rockies/Cardinals, Braves/Giants, and Padres/Rays in the only interleague tilt. The 2013 season is only six week’s old, so if you’re still not exactly sure of how to go about drafting a daily fantasy baseball roster or if you live for the opportunity of winning free $$$, tonight’s the night for you to take advantage.

In the process, you’ll be able to get a feel for the variety each site affiliated with DFSN brings to the table. So play around, tinker with line-ups at all the sites, but most importantly, familiarize yourself with the nuances of the game so that you can get yourself ready for the real money games – Good luck!

Anyone can put a roster together by hitching their wagon to a bunch of beasts like Miggy or Tulo, but the key to winning consistently in this strategic game otherwise known as daily fantasy baseball is finding value players and drafting them to your roster when the situation calls for it. The following is a short list of players you can confidently draft for both 50/50s and GPPs without putting a severe dent into your salary allowance.

2B Brian Dozier ($5,600) The Twinkies 2-bagger has gone hitless in two straight since having his 10-game streak of reaching base snapped, but he should start a new streak tonight with him batting .600 and owning a .778 OBP against Masterson with 1 2B and 4 BBs. Now I’m not expecting him to go yard since he’s yet to do so this season, but he’ll likely help you avoid the doughnut and likely snag you a few points which is of utmost importance when value hunting.

3B Will Middlebrooks ($7,050) The BoSox 3-bagger hasn’t gotten out to quite the start his season–long fantasy backers would have liked, but Will has still shown flashes of power with six of his 21 overall hits leaving the yard. He loves hitting in Arlington, as he’s 6-for-12 there lifetime with 1 HR which just so happened to come against Holland who’ll be toeing the bump for the Rangers. The winds will supposedly be blowing out to right field at 10+ MPH for this one, which makes the prospect of him sending one into the Texas night even greater!

1B Adam LaRoche ($7,050) Another big fantasy producer that’s gotten out to a slow start this season is the Nats 1-bagger who owns a .129 BAVG and a .556 OPS; not good! However, he’s raked 6 hits in 18 ABs versus Burnett (3 XBH, 1 HR, 5 RBI) and returns to PNC where he’s a career .299 hitter with 36 HRs and an OPS of .902. With A.J. having more problems disposing of lefties per usual and Adam very familiar with hitting in this ballpark, this weekend could possibly be the jumpstart to his season.

OF Desmond Jennings ($9,000) Once again, it’s been an extremely rough go of it for the Rays CF who’s batting a paltry .218 to go along with 30 Ks through 101 ABs. While he went hitless throughout the KC series, I expect him to get healthy tonight versus ROX starter Jeff Francis who enters his sixth start of the season struggling immensely. Jennings has seen him real well having gone 3-for-4 with 1 2B, 1 3B, an RBI, BB, and 2 SBs against him lifetime. Tampa looks to be in a great spot to put some runs on the board for this season’s staff ace, and I expect Jennings to play a role in setting the table.

Match-ups include A’s/Yankees, Nationals/Pirates, Red Sox/Rangers, Cardinals/Brewers, Orioles/Angels, and Dodgers/Giants. The 2013 season is only a month old, so if you’re still not exactly sure of how to go about drafting a daily fantasy baseball roster or if you live for the opportunity of winning free $$$, tonight’s the night for you to take advantage.

In the process, you’ll be able to get a feel for the variety each site affiliated with DFSN brings to the table. So play around, tinker with line-ups at all the sites, but most importantly, familiarize yourself with the nuances of the game so that you can get yourself ready for the real money games – Good luck!
